<h2>Ichiko Aoba has the power to bend space around her, pulling listeners from reality and surrounding them in the comforting fabric of her imagination. She’s been casting these spells since her debut at 19 years old, making picturesque dioramas with only her voice and guitar. But in recent years, she’s turned a corner and let a new process take hold.</h2>
<p>The Japanese singer, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist tapped into the full breadth of her ability, marrying the classical guitar of her earlier work with lofty orchestral sweeps. She went big with Windswept Adan (2020), crafting a story about her deepening bond with nature. Collaborating closely with arranger Taro Umebayashi and creative director Kodai Kobayashi, the three of them freely shared ideas—both aural and visual—crystallizing a collective vision. The universe of Windswept Adan was so vast that it also included the script for an imaginary movie, drawings by Ichiko, and stunning photos by Kobayashi. For her new album, Luminescent Creatures, she opens an even wider portal into her mind.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ichiko’s ambitions kept growing, and the world took notice. She was well known in Japan—collaborating with artists like Haruomi Hosono, Cornelius, and the late Ryuichi Sakamoto—but Windswept Adan connected her with an international audience. She earned the adoration of fellow musicians abroad, collaborating with and playing alongside artists like Japanese Breakfast, Mac DeMarco, Owen Pallett, Pomme, Weyes Blood, and Black Country New Road as her profile continued to grow. Western publications like Pitchfork and The Needle Drop started paying attention, though the real driving force behind her ascent is her naturally captivating presence.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Her Instagram reels, sometimes snippets from shows and sometimes private concerts from her home, attract hundreds of thousands of viewers. Fans create TikToks using her songs as the backdrop to scenes from their lives, letting her music be their soundtrack in the moments they choose to be vulnerable. And no matter where she performs—whether it’s an intimate venue, a huge festival like Big Ears, or Walt Disney Concert Hall—the entire room looks on in stunned silence, hanging on every breath. She sings in Japanese, but her delicate voice operates on an emotional frequency that pierces through language barriers and cultural divides.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As Ichiko’s star continues to rise, she’s committed to being her truest self. Along with her creative partners Umebayashi and Kobayashi, she’s returned to the recesses of her reverie for her latest project. Her compositions have become more grand, her songwriting more refined, and she’s preparing for her largest world tour to date—yet her ability to make listeners feel like they’re inside in a private cosmos alongside her remains as strong as ever.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>The Swell Season is back. After reconvening for a limited number of sold-out shows in March 2022, followed by a more extensive US tour in August 2023, the duo returns with new music.</h2>
<p>A studio session that started out as an effort to create a couple new singles to bring with them on tour, ended up yielding a full length album, fittingly titled ´Forward´. Although The Swell Season released a stand alone single ´The Answer Is Yes´ in June 2023, ´Forward´ will be their first full length album in 16 years.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The album consists of 8 tracks written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, who take turns singing the lead. Building on the foundation of and with respect to their shared history, they move forward as two equals, supporting and lifting each other up. Accompanied by old band members Joe Doyle, Marja Gaynor and Bertrand Galen, joined by Piero Perelli, and produced by Sturla Mio Thorisson, they create a sound both old and new for The Swell Season.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Irglová and Hansard came to prominence together starring in the 2007 film Once and winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song with their composition “Falling Slowly” in 2008. The soundtrack garnered two Grammy nominations and the two christened their project, The Swell Season. They went on to release the critically acclaimed album Strict Joy and touring the world before branching out into solo careers.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In 2012, Once, The Musical debuted and went on to be nominated for eleven Tonys, winning eight including Best Musical. It ran for three years on Broadway and is currently still in production as a touring musical. In 2014 the musical was nominated for five Laurence Olivier awards with Hansard and Irglova winning for Outstanding Achievement in Music. Over the course of the last decade, Once, in all its iterations, has become a modern classic and a cultural touchstone being referenced in everything from The Simpsons to Ted Lasso. The fan base created by this modern masterpiece looms large in the minds and hearts of many.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Since the success of Once, Irglová has released three studio albums, the most recent one of them being LILA, recorded with an Icelandic producer Sturla Mio Thorisson at their Masterkey studio in Iceland. LILA reflects on Irglová’s journey from her “Girl from a Movie” status to wife, mother and artist.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Hansard has released 5 studio albums, the most recent one of them being ´All That Was East Is West Of Me Now´ released in October 2023, exactly one year after the release of “Take Heart” single featuring the Ukrainian Action, upon spending time with Ukrainian refugees in Ireland. Earlier in ‘22 he toured as part of Eddie Vedder’s Earthlings band and was featured on the Flag Day soundtrack with Vedder and Cat Power.&nbsp;</p>

<p><em>Ethel Cain has partnered with <a rel="noopener" href="https://theallycoalition.org/" target="_blank">The Ally Coalition</a>, so she will be donating $1 from every ticket sold to organizations committed to serving the Trans community.</em></p>
<h2>Ethel Cain is the creation of Florida-born multidisciplinary artist Hayden Anhedönia. After years spent teaching herself to produce at home in the Florida panhandle and releasing various projects, Cain moved to Indiana and singlehandedly wrote, produced, recorded and mixed her acclaimed 2021 EP<em> Inbred</em> from the basement of the old church where she lived. After returning to the South, this time to Alabama, Cain's groundbreaking debut album <em>Preacher's Daughte</em>r was released in May 2022. A multimedia work that took more than four years to assemble, the record was met with praise from The New York Times, NPR, Vogue, W Magazine, V Magazine and more, with many critics naming the album one of the best of the year.&nbsp;</h2>
<p><em>Perverts</em>, Cain's first body of work since releasing her debut album, was conceived in Coraopolis, PA and completed in Tallahassee, FL. The project was released in January 2025 and explores Cain's furthest afield inspirations and sonic negative space, mining drone, noise, slowcore, ambient and beyond. Written, produced, recorded and mixed entirely by Cain, this pivotal project received critical acclaim for its challenging sonic landscape and unflinching production style, expanding the borders of the Ethel Cain world as it previously stood. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Cain has spent the years since releasing <em>Preacher's Daughter</em> playing sold out shows and packed festival sets around the world; walking in New York and Paris fashion weeks and collaborating with Givenchy, Miu Miu and Calvin Klein, as well as collaborating and sharing stages with Florence + the Machine, Mitski and more. Cain returns to the stage in 2025 to unveil her new album, <em>Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You</em>, which serves as a prequel story to&nbsp;<em>Preacher’s Daughter</em>. &nbsp;</p>
